From Our Editors
Founded in 2007 by musical director Sandra Colston, Funky Voices aims to bring like-minded individuals from all walks of life together to sing in choirs across Essex. The groups meet weekly for a two-hour rehearsal to belt out modern tunes, with a tutor helping performers align their voices for a harmonious collective sound. It’s open to anyone from ages 16 to 100, and no musical training is required. Each singer has the opportunity to learn up to 50 songs per year, with the chance of performing at a number of events, going on tour and taking part in competitions. Members may even get to record tracks, perform on songs showcased on iTunes and appear on TV and radio. Funky Voices choirs have performed at both national and international venues, including theatres in the London West End, Disneyland Paris, Berlin, Ireland and New York. These performances have helped raise funds for both local and global charities.
