Sitting in the rural village of Holbrook, a 15-minute drive from Derby city centre, is The Spotted Cow; a restaurant with rooms. Serving a menu of British classics including toad in the hole and breaded wholetail scampi, they also dish out a carvery on daily basis, offering a choice of roast meats with vegetables and gravy. The accommodation comes in the form of two double rooms, both with free wifi connection and one with a four-poster bed. Regular functions are held in the restaurant, including quiz nights, parties and wedding receptions.

Carvery was dry, and ambiance bland. Only 2 other diners at mid-lunch time and yet service was poor: bar staff were too busy chatting to each other; received no welcome. Awful smell of burning food and fumes/haze filled the dining area during the meal, waitress stood by the door for air, we had too endure it. Over all meal was unpleasant.

Not to the same standard as our last visit to the Spotted Cow. Pub was cold and unwelcoming. Carvery was very disappointing with little choice, no Yorkshire puddings to accompany roast beef. When I enquired, 3 were produced from the lunchtime service, reheated in microwave and too hard to eat. Will not be rushing back there.

Well where shall I start hmm. Limited drink's available none of the drink fridges actually looked like they were even on. Got shown to our table and my arm actually stuck the table it was that sticky! CLEAN your table's they are disgusting looking with glass ring mark's and everything. Used the toilet's to find toilet paper on the floor and one of the toilet's had overflown and was leaking into the other's toilet's. Only one toilet had toilet paper in! The place was cold with no atmosphere due to us being about the only people in there on a Saturday. Starter of garlic mushroom's was OK. The main's we had the carvery which was very very average and the Yorkie pudding I actually spat out it tasted that awful! Nearly burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. Had to asked for gravy, sauces as these had ran out..it wasn't remotely busy so work that one out. The pudding chocolate fudge cake was pretty tasteless, appeared to have very little chocolate fudge on it? Very obviously they had bought the very cheapest cake possible. Service was slow and as I said before it was empty. Seem to be run by a load of 18 year old's. To be fair they were pleasant enough when serving you though. My husband looked up at the light above us which had a bulb out and you could see into the ceiling as it had'nt been re-plastered leaving a gaping hole around it. Basically this pub/restaurant is a shadow of it's former self and it wouldn't surprise me if it closed down soon. Such a shame as a few year's back it was lovely and we would visit fairly regularly and recommend the place to other's. Will never go back again under the current management. This place overall reminded me of faulty tower's..not good!

The chips were hard and not cooked the pie was cold in the middle, we had the starter and then was told they had not got the scampi, the trifle was disgusting and the pub staff seemed very uninterested in being there , they did not have the customer satisfaction view !!!! in all the experience was not one I would want to repeat,

It was a rip-off. In no way was it to the value of £71, despite being assured to the contrary. Also, no idea about the wine despite having a bar.
