We were unaware that the deal was for starter and main course , as opposed to main and dessert, but that was possibly my not reading the small print properly! The meal was tasty and filling.

I want to give the Priory Court Hotel a reasonable review because the chef cooked us a superb meal. We cannot fault the food. Unfortunately the rest was not so good. We booked on-line and it was confirmed but when we arrived, our booking was not registered. Thankfully I had the booking email to prove this had been booked! Unfortunately one of the starters was incorrect so had to wait for another to be served which wasn't too much of a problem. What clinched it was receiving the bill from the lady who oversaw the bookings (I assume the Manager) billed us for the full meal, less a deposit paid (which was the Groupon value paid) and was trying to charge us for the remaining food bill, as well as drinks! I thought this was very cheeky since we had already paid for the two course Groupon meal in advance so the drinks bill was all we should have been paying. I do wonder if other Groupon users have had this problem and realised how the bill was being prepared?! I will recommend the hotel because of the excellent food BUT caution with how you are billed for eating here.

Despite the initial welcome and bar drinks served in a pleasant seating area, We found the restaurant to be brightly lit and impersonal, the food was actually quite basic and very poor value for money. The service was good but I would not recommend to a friend for an evening meal. Lacking in ambience and taste.

We understood from the voucher that it was a meal for 2 for £35 instead of £50 but when we finished our meal we were told that it meant they took £50 off the bill. As we had a dessert each and 3 drinks between us we had to pay another £40 which made the meal very expensive and it really wasn't worth £90 - or even the £75 we paid. Lovely owner really trying to make a go of a lovely property but the service was extremely slow and the food wasn't very exciting or plentiful. When we left the chef was outside on his mobile phone in spite of having customers still waiting for their meals in the restaurant.

Lovely dining room, bright and airy but with romantic lighting. Food imaginative and tasty.
