Kicking off outside St Giles Cathedral on High Street, this three-hour tour winds its away through the landmarks and hideaways of Edinburgh. A guide will regale the group with historical titbits and stories as they stroll, and explain the basics of photography technique whether they’re using a smartphone, digital or DLSR camera. Learners will experiment with composition and shooting in different depths of field, and after the tour will be sent a PDF explaining the techniques used. A compact camera can be hired for a £5 surcharge, and a tripod which is required for hours of darkness can also be hired for £5.

Founded in 2013, Iconic Edinburgh Photo Tours, gives an insight into the lesser-seen sights of the city and schools learners on how to use their camera. Private and group tours take sightseers around the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Edinburgh, along the Forth Coast, and up into the Highlands to take in the rugged wilderness. Key elements of photography will be covered, from composition to lighting, and guests can use a phone, digital or DLSR camera to take snaps. Restrictions: Valid Mon, Wed, Fri-Sat 9.30am-12.30pm and Mon-Sun 2pm-5pm. Must arrive 10 mins prior to start time. Must be 18 or older. Must provide own camera and equipment with fully charged battery. If tour takes place during dark hours a tripod and manual camera will be required. £5 surcharge for tripod hire; £5 surcharge for compact camera with manual setting hire. Equipment must be discussed at booking and will not be available on the day without advance booking. Tour involves a good deal of walking as well as steps. Must wear sensible foot attire and clothing for all weather. In the event of extreme weather, session may be rescheduled.
