From Our Editors

Originally established in 1993 in Haguenau, Patisserie Maxime showcases the creations of pastry chef Didier Meyer. Boasting a Master Pastry Chef degree and training at a selection of venues in Strasbourg, the French Riviera and Alsace, Didier has since become leader of the Association of Alsacian Pastry Chefs. He is now looking to spread his name slightly further afield, bringing a touch of French flair to the Scottish baking scene.

Having previously used a voucher and dined in Maxine Patisserie this was a disappointment to find that this voucher was for a pop up cafe in the French Institute (never noticed this change of venue when we purchased the voucher). Unfortunately the meal was not a patch on what you get when in the actual restaurant. Would certainly check the venue for using this prior to purchasing again.

The food was good but it should have said the Bistro is 2 floors below ground level with no lift so not really suitable for people with walking difficulties

The restaurant premises are best described as a bit rustic. Greeted by welcoming and obliging staff and the food itself was really excellent and washed down with a lovely bottle of wine.

The sharing platter was brilliant and staff were really helpful and friendly. It was a lovely evening so we sat outside. Quite a tranquil atmosphere out there. Ordered some pastries as extra and they were awesome. Would definitely go back.
