From Our Editors

A medieval building dating back to 1470, John Knox House is Edinburgh's only surviving structure of its type. Equipped with an audio guide, visitors can explore the house associated with The Scottish Reformation, which led to civil war and the abdication of Mary, Queen of Scots. Guests will hear about the house's famous inhabitants including John Knox, a clergyman and writer, and James Mosman – jeweller and goldsmith to Mary, Queen of Scots – as well as the intruder-deterring tricks and traps, and The Oak Room's veiled devil.

Extremely enjoyable trip out on a quiet weekday in winter in the High Street. Very interesting and easily readable information boards in the John Knox Centre and pleasant cafe and facilities in the Storytelling Centre next door.

Very interesting. Enjoyed, but would have liked more interaction, perhaps to sit and listen to a video or DVD. However, learnt a lot.

John Knox's House is great for those with an interest in Scottish history. It is well set out with a lot of interesting exhibits. It's probably more for adults than children as it's quite a static museum but really enjoyable.

I was surprised that not many people seemed to know this museum. It's worth visiting if you're interested in learning about the conflicts between the catholic church and the protestants, led by John Knox.

i was unsure what to expect and while i thought that some of the exhibits and information was very interesting, a lot of the detail was repetitive
