From Our Editors

A medieval building dating back to 1470, John Knox House is Edinburgh's only surviving structure of its type. Equipped with an audio guide, visitors can explore the house associated with The Scottish Reformation, which led to civil war and the abdication of Mary, Queen of Scots. Guests will hear about the house's famous inhabitants including John Knox, a clergyman and writer, and James Mosman – jeweller and goldsmith to Mary, Queen of Scots – as well as the intruder-deterring tricks and traps, and The Oak Room's veiled devil.

Very fascinating insight into turbulent times in Scottish history. How the ideological tenets and supporters of one religion were vilified, artefacts and buildings destroyed, proponents murdered. Another demonstration of how nothing has really changed-one religious group usurps another to become the popular/dominant one

If you are interested in history and how things emerged in many ways in society and religiously then visit. Only takes about 45-1 hour and interesting house to see the changes in architecture over the decades.
