From Our Editors

A medieval building dating back to 1470, John Knox House is Edinburgh's only surviving structure of its type. Equipped with an audio guide, visitors can explore the house associated with The Scottish Reformation, which led to civil war and the abdication of Mary, Queen of Scots. Guests will hear about the house's famous inhabitants including John Knox, a clergyman and writer, and James Mosman – jeweller and goldsmith to Mary, Queen of Scots – as well as the intruder-deterring tricks and traps, and The Oak Room's veiled devil.

I was surprised that not many people seemed to know this museum. It's worth visiting if you're interested in learning about the conflicts between the catholic church and the protestants, led by John Knox.

i was unsure what to expect and while i thought that some of the exhibits and information was very interesting, a lot of the detail was repetitive

the house itself is stunning but the museum is a waste of time and money my advice pay the difference and do the bus tours you will learn just as much about John Knox there and a whole lot more about edinburgh

Take a peek into one of the oldest buildings in Edinburgh with a wealth of Scottish history through the ages. Worth the admission fee for the view up the street and also the painted ceiling! Highly recommended

Thankful I purchased this as a Groupon as if i had paid full price i'd have been even more disappointed than I already am. There was no tour guide, there was far too many people in the house at the one time, not a lot of information and nothing explained felt rushed as everywhere we went there was someone waiting due to there being too many people in the house.
