What You'll Get
The picturesque sights of Edinburgh’s atmospheric Old Town will be captured in timeless photo format on a tour courtesy of professional and Edinburgh native James Christie. Starting at 10am, budding snappers will zoom round the iconic Royal Mile as James schools them on their camera and about the ancient surroundings. As they pick up tips on types of lenses, lighting, shutter speed and framing, the centuries of history seeped into the Reformation-era buildings and cobbled streets will come into clear focus. Four to six weeks after the trip, camera clickers will receive a specially edited 12” x 8” print of one of their more emotive snaps in the post.

Groupon Asks James Christie, Managing Director of Edinburgh Photography Tours, about his start in photo-taking and his love of teaching.
G: How did you get into photography?
“Becoming a professional photographer was not something I chose. Photography more or less chose me and I’ve been taking photographs since I was seven years old.
Many years ago, on a day like any other, my father handed me his 35 mm camera and asked me to take a family portrait. The moment had a profound affect on me as I felt this sudden urge to capture it, to freeze the moment in time, so I could return to it again and again. I picked up the camera, clicked the shutter and what developed transformed my life.”
G: What would you say was your speciality?
“I am renowned for my portraiture and weddings, however, more recently teaching photography has come to the forefront and I really get a big kick out of helping others understand their cameras and helping them to take better photographs.”
G: What do your students usually find most interesting about the courses?
“Honestly? How really easy it is to shoot in manual mode after only four hours teaching.”
G: If you could photograph any famous person, who would it be and why?
“Brian Duffy……..a truly creative and iconic photographer. He did the Aladdin Sane album cover shoot for David Bowie. Sadly Brian is no longer with us……a truly creative genius.”
