Located just north of John O’Groats, Natural Retreats offers modern self-catering accommodation and glass-fronted lodges on the Scottish coast. Most rooms have sea views across the Pentland Firth, with views of Stroma and the Orkney Islands. The local area offers boat tours and a ferry to the Orkney Islands, as well as various walks that take in the rugged scenery. Further afield, the Castle of Mey lies within a 15-minute drive, while Dunnet Forest is around 20 minutes down the road near Dunnet Head, the mainland’s most northern point. The retreat itself provides visitors with opportunities to embark on guided walks, geocaching, whisky appreciation or spa treatments. Originally built in 1875, the hotel has been restored with a colourful Norse-style extension for bed and breakfast and self-catering apartments, with modern lodges nearby boasting Caithness stone and Scottish Larch timber construction with sedum roofs. The lodges feature a fully-equipped kitchen, along with washer and dryer, flat-screen TV, DVD player, radio, Apple TV, central heating and a decked area with outdoor furniture. Next to the Inn and lodges is the Natural Retreats Storehouse, a co-operative shop and cafe offering local dishes, ales and wine. On-site Natural Retreats Outfitters retail and activity centre.
