From Our Editors
These days, everyone is looking for ways to make wearing face masks more comfortable, be it because of Material ‘Rub-Rash’, Acne (lately being referred to as ‘Maskne’) Sweat, Spectacles fogging-up, Skin Irritation & Dryness, Mask Anxiety, Claustrophobic feelings or even to protect Lipstick rubbing off!
While the Center’s for Disease Control (CDC), the Government and their Scientific Advisors want us to wear face coverings in public spaces, face masks aren’t the most comfortable things to wear for an extended period of time. They can make you feel hot, are often hard to breathe in, and are basically annoying to deal with. To help with these things we, with our partners have developed a range of masks and mask accessories.
The first one is The Mask Angel. Growing quickly in popularity, it is a face mask bracket made out of bendable silicon based plastic frames and it is designed to keep the mask away from touching your face, making it feel easier to breathe and potentially minimises irritation. Searches for “face mask brackets” have peaked to their highest point so far according to Google Trends and they are selling fast!
How do face mask brackets work—and are they safe to wear?
The idea behind face mask brackets is that they make it easier to breathe and lower irritation from masks since your face is not directly touching it. These silicone disks can also provide a snugger fit by closing any side gap on the mask. Plus, they prevent lipstick from being rubbed onto a mask, making them a date night saviour.
Some brands available for sale, recommend using double-sided tape or sewing the face mask bracket into the mask. That way it will not shift around as you're wearing them, which is a common problem experienced. The Cherub, part of The Mask Angel family has a distinct advantage because it has Velcro attached to the outer tip of the frame; this makes it particularly good when using a standard 3-Ply Disposable Mask as it likes to readily attach itself to the Velcro.
We asked Daniel who hates wearing masks, to give one a try, and he says “The Mask Angel makes wearing a mask so much more comfortable. In a warm environment my face doesn’t feel like its in a sauna and the fabric doesn’t stick to my face in no time at all.
When we asked Heather to try out the Mask Angel she came back saying “I’m amazed how good these are for people who wear glasses, they really help to stop them fogging up”.
John suffers from Mask Acne (or Maskne) following prolonged use and believes the Mask Angel is a great prevention device.
