Built in the 19th century as a family home, Strathblane Country House is surrounded by verdant Scottish countryside, whilst also just a 30-minute drive to the bustling centre of Glasgow. Set in its own landscaped grounds, falconry is offered on-site and there are a number of good local waters for the anglers who visit the hotel. Those up for a challenge can undertake the climb to Ben Lomond, the second-highest peak in the UK, whose summit offers vast views over Loch Lomond. Those who like to keep things at ground level can enjoy a circular walk around the many footpaths and trails close to the hotel, which are suitable for all levels of walker. Within the hotel, guest rooms retain a historic charm while offering modern comforts for the savvy traveller. Individually-decorated, each room boasts en suite facilities, complimentary toiletries, Wi-Fi, TV and tea tray. In the restaurant, the chef utilises the abundance of organic produce which is available right on the hotel’s doorstep, to create bold and contemporary dishes. Those with a sweet tooth will not be disappointed either; the resident baker is renowned for delights such as macarons, scones and tarts, and a rich selection of coffee is on offer, sourced from fair-trade co-operatives.
