The Scottish champs should be run as a single event at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. It should be held in the weeks preceding the National Champs to ensure athletes are at a peak for the event and in order that the GB based Scottish riders can take part. The poor timing and 'splintered' style of the event meant that the riders present were of limited ability. Many of Scotlands better riders were not there. There was a desperation on the part of Scottish Cycling who tried to make up for poor numbers taking part by inviting very poor quality and grossly inexperienced riders to compete in what can be a high speed and dangerous type of racing. This resulted in rider safety being compromised, crashes and injuries resulted. It showed a total disregard for rider safety to make the organisation look better than it deserved to look. Scottish Cycling has recently been doing nothing constructive at all. It has chosen instead to ignore riding on the back of the wave of publicity generated by British cycling's success at the Olympics. That bubble has been well and truly burst by the overall very poor performances of Scottish riders on road and track at the Commonwealth Games. Scottish Cycling lacks the quality coaching and performance staff with the ability and vision to take rider performances forward. There also appears to be an inability to organise the type of event that the membership would like to see. The Scottish Championships was a total failure in terms of being a showcase for Scotland's best riders. They were not there! It also failed miserably as a spectator friendly event and taken overall it did not reflect the popularity of cycle sport in Scotland. As a Scottish National event it was very poor indeed. Time to wake up Scottish Cycling. Find a coach who has the ability to train our riders properly. Find staff who are in touch with the wishes of the membership and who have the ability to organise top quality events to a high standard. Both these things are required to raise the profile and increase the membership of Scottish Cycling. If you fail to do this you will fail as an organisation.

It was exciting to see the cyclist compete. This was our first time at an event. The commentator was disappointing you could not make out what he was saying it was very muffled. We were not the only people to notice this there was several groups commenting on it. There was no audience participation. No cheering on the cyclist. The atmosphere would have been better if someone got the crowd started.
