From Our Editors

Following a recent refurbishment, The Royal Oak now boasts a restaurant area along with its traditional pub, promoting a contemporary, warm atmosphere. As well as housing a bar and restaurant, single and double bedrooms are available for short stays, with each equipped with televisions and tea and coffee making facilities. They host live music on Friday nights, and during the winter months guests are invited to sit beside the log fire with a drink to warm their cockles.

Visited for Sunday Lunch in a party of 4. Two had roast beef and two had roast lamb. The meat was cooked beautifully and the selection of vegetables was very good. Desserts were just right and overall it was a good experience.

Bad attitude when trying to book. Afternoon tea can only be taken between 12 and 2 ! 2 small scones and 4 tiny shop bought petit fours between two people. No refill of tea offered. Will not go back or recommend.

This is a nice enough pub that has added on a dinning area that's still in need of TLC. The service and staff were excellent but the food was a disappointment. You really felt that the amount you got was because it was a groupon deal, if this was not the case then it was very poor value for money. We had four finger sandwiches that amounted to two slices of bread each. One ham sandwich and one cheese. A scone each and a few little petti fours that where not great. The only saving grace was the clotted cream that came in little pre-packed tubs for your scone. One pot of tea and a small jug of milk and you did not get a refill or extra water to add to the pot.

A little light music in the background in the dining area would create a little ambience. Very hot by windows when sun shines through from large window with no blind. A very pleasant experience with the sunday lunch and we would gladly return.

Most comments found for Royal Oak are not good on Tripadvisor and I agree what others have said about this place, food was Ok, staff didn't seem that interested, no menu, this was what they had and no discussion. Food was ordered and arrived within minutes as if they had to close the doors, in fact arrived at 15:30 and was on the road again by 16:45. Only paid £13:95 as a deal, but was not an enjoyable experience, will not be back
