Kelburn Castle & Country Centre - Fairlie

Fun or Leisure
Kelburn Castle and Country Estate, Fairlie, AYRSHIRE KA29 0BE Kelburn Castle and Country Estate, Fairlie Directions

From Our Editors

Originating as a Norman keep, Kelburn Castle and Country Centre now stands adorned with bold designs by Brazilian graffiti artists. Children's activities include a maze, playbarn, and the complex walkways of the secret forest. The site's grounds also play host to wildlife including deer, otters and peregrine falcons, and resident rangers who provide information and tours. Regular events number corporate functions, weddings and parties. Taking in the castle and grounds at their leisure, visitors can marvel at a distinctively colourful exterior, or stop by the likes of an adventure course, a stockade or Chinese gardens.

A sunny day at Kelburn. Grandchildren had a lovely time , following the signposts to the various new activities and secret places, our first visit. Cafe , restaurant and toilets are very central, staff in all areas were very pleasant , and prices reasonable, ice cream was delicious. We enjoyed the gardens and the big trees, children especially enjoyed climbing on the huge fallen trees and walled garden was beautiful. We enjoyed our walk out to the caves etc. On the day there was a general sense of work being done, and you have to keep a close eye when walking out to the glen, steep slopes and makeshift railings. Felt that there was a push on to have the parkready for the high summer season, no food to feed the chickens and the animal enclosure had railings around it. My grandchildren were a bit young for the adventure playground, and disappointed there was not a similar but smaller playground for them

We usually love Kelburn, visit several times a year. Felt this Groupon wasn't a good deal as it wasn't 50% off the ticket price. I paid £15 through Groupon for an £18 ticket (off peak price). Playpark is under renovation, parts of the secret forest were closed. Still a lovely place.

Good day out but bit tired in places, maze was disappointing as the parts to get lost in were boarded up so wasn't really a maze. Would say it's better for school age kids as no play area for pre-schoolers apart from indoor area. Not sure why they ask you to pay extra for this area? Nice walk up the glen and gardens lovely. Beware the midgies though!
