From Our Editors

Opened in 1991, Winkhill's Blackbrook Zoo is a registered charity which aims to advance public education of natural history and converse the natural world. It's home to 200 species of rare and some critically endangered birds, from penguins and pelicans to kookaburras and spoonbills. Children can come during educational visits and junior zoo keeper experience days, while adults can browse the beasts and take a break in the Scarlet Tearoom

Becky did a lovely job of the zoo experience, my children loved it and can't wait to go back.

Be more specific as to when people have to turn up for a zoo day, we were waiting for nearly an hour because we were given the wrong time by someone in the office.

I was pretty shocked at how downhill the place had gone since my last visit. To be honest, if I had paid full price I would have been complaining and demanding a refund ! It was not a pleasant day out at all.

It's amazing how much they have there, definetly an all-dayer and watching the pelicans being fed is an experience. All of the staff are very knowledgeable, i learnt so much it has amazed me. We will definetly be going back.

Its a lovely day out but without the groupon voucher it would be a bit expensive for a family of 4.

The venue is extremely run down, pathways are covered in bird muck, which should be cleaned off. They also have over grown hedge ways and nettles obstruding theses which are both inconvenient and untidy. The penguins water is filthy, and the viewing glass isn't pleasant. In all I wouldn't be surprised if it was to close. What the venue needs is a good children's play area/park and to tidy up pathways. If it didn't look so unkept I would certainly go back. However as it stands I won't.
