The Forge in Slindon is a community-owned establishment that combines a cafe, a shop and information centre. A cross between a convenience store, a deli and a farm shop, it stocks a range of food and grocery products, everyday essentials and newspapers. Boasting free Wi-Fi and using locally sourced produce, the cafe serves up breakfasts, light lunches and a selection of snacks, cakes and beverages, from coffee and tea to wines and beers. The information point offers information about the area including the South Downs National Park, and The Forge has cooperated with the National Trust to put together four local paths of different lengths for walkers to enjoy the beauty of the West Sussex countryside.

This is a lovely cafe, with a great atmosphere. The afternoon tea we had was delicious, with a choice of sandwiches, a warm scone with clotted cream and jam and a choice between about six homemade cakes! Great value for money, but I suggest you make sure you are very hungry before you go!

The concept of the community run cafe and shop in Slindon village is a good one. The staff were friendly, but clearly amateurish in service (forgot the drinks) and the environment was too small and noisy to be pleasant. The afternoon tea was ok, but you had to choose one sandwich each and really even with the Groupon deal I would not say it was great value for money. Probably nicer just to pop in on a summers day, sit outside and have a drink if you are in that area.
