Neighbouring the thatched roofs and quaint stonework of the picturesque village of Amberley, The Sportsman is a countryside retreat offering tranquil snoozing space, hearty dinners, and easy access to the sweeping environs of the South Downs. Five bedrooms are classically styled with contemporary touches too, each offering views to the surrounding countryside. The restaurant serves up traditional British cuisine and Sunday roasts, plus packed lunches for those heading off to explore the Arun Valley or other nearby rambling spots. In the bar, locally-brewed beers sit alongside guest ales and wines from all over the world. The hotel is around a 20-minute walk from the 900-year-old Amberley Castle, while there are plenty of hiking, biking and strolling trails in the area.
