From Our Editors
Kirly-Sue's Kitchen is a web site offering culinary advice for vegetarians and vegans. The services it offers includes, regular postings of vegetarian recipes, live cookery demonstrations, live presentations on vegetarian food, an option to order a book by the proprietor and training sessions for aspiring food demonstrators. There is also the promise of a related DVD 'available soon'. The web site is run by Susanne Kirlew, a Londoner with Jamaican parents. She has been a vegetarian for twenty-five years. She avoids dairy products, but she is not a vegan. Included with her biographical details is the option to contact her by email. There is an online facility to request bookings with her for the demonstrations and presentations. The cuisine covered by the recipes on the site is mostly anglo/Caribbean. There are also recipes from other areas of the globe. For example there are recipes for pasta, paella and tortillas. The recipes offered on the web site give a list of ingredients and describe the cooking method. There is also a photograph of the finished dish. By accessing the monthly archives it is possible to see a whole range of vegetarian and vegan recipes. Although the recipes give precise quantities for ingredients, there is nothing to say how many people each is designed to serve. Most of the recipes have quite a long list of ingredients. However, the cooking techniques involved are not complicated. The recipes are generally for everyday family eating. The ingredients used are widely available.
