From Our Editors

Located on Camden Lock, Lock 17 sits right in the heart of the Camden scene. It holds live music events for up and coming and established bands, and resident and guests DJs fill the gaps. Guests can mingle in the loft room, or retire to the terrace for a chilled out vibe, while downstairs in the basement the party reaches its crescendo.

The Show was really very good, the only thing that let our visit down was the fact that we were visiting for my mums birthday & were told that she would get a 'shout out' - which didn't happen, we also tried to order the 'sparkly surprise' but couldn't as they 'had no cupcakes' - we were not offered any alternative or good will gesture, other tables that were there for an occasion had balloons etc, decorating their table, ours did not, (I had signed my mum up 4 the 'v.i.p' on the jongleurs website & mentioned on the phone when booking & when checking in with the door staff, the lady did take my mums name & said they would make it a birthday to remember) quite a let down All in all. One V.disappointed birthday girl.

To whom it may concern, I am writing to complain about the service I recently experienced when visiting the London branch of Lock 17 in Camden on Valentines Day this Year, Saturday 14th February 2015. My partner and I visited the branch in the Camden market area of the city and after searching for a good 10-minutes for the waiter, we explained that we were looking for our reserved table that had been booked under a Groupon deal (Voucher reference: 00102469WO). After being pushed from the basement bar to the ground floor bar and back again I asked for someone to help me sort this out as we just wanted a quick bite to eat before heading home from a weekend visiting the area. We waited a further 10 more minutes whilst the member of staff tried in vainly to look for an empty and reserved table only to come back to us and explain that for one reason or another table was not reserved and it seemed as though it was never reserved by the restaurant in the first place. With no tables left I asked the staff member to speak to the manager as this was clearly unacceptable, especially since the Groupon deal had already been cashed in as the waitress had explained to me. When the manager arrived she too looked over the restaurant in order to find our table, despite us explaining that myself, my partner and the waitress had already looked but with no luck. As it was nearly half six and almost 30-minutes since we had arrived my partner and I were starting to become frustrated, hungry and annoyed that this was not the experience we had paid for and certainly not the quick and easy meal we had hoped for. The manager soon came back to us and suggested that there was a couple in a booth-table on the mezzanine of the business that were willing to share the table whilst we ate. I was not only horrified at the prospect that the management thought that this was acceptable when they had clearly made a mistake, especially on Valentines Day, but also insulted that they thought this would be alright for paying customers. Appalled and now quite upset the manager went off somewhere and appeared a few moments later and explained that there was a table that was becoming free within the next five minutes on the mezzanine. As we waited on the top floor it took over 20 minutes to finally get seated and even then it was on a dirty table full of other punters plates and cocktail glasses. As soon as the table was free though I went to order the food at the bar and after placing my order with the first member of staff I spoke to I was not offered any sort of compensation or apology for the inconvenience and upset. After being seated for nearly 25 minutes, over an hour and a half after my partner and I arrived, we were both very hungry and beginning to get anxious about time, especially given the fact that we had a train to catch back home to Bedfordshire. It was after waiting a full 40 minutes since ordering that I went back to the bar to ask where my belated order was. I was told by a member of the bar staff that it was conveniently being ‘plated up’ however we doubt this as it was a further 5 minutes before our meals arrived, shoddily presented on the plate and with no apology or explanation from the staff. Eating our meal swiftly due to being so hungry by this point we were conscious of the time ever more so and the train we had to catch. Throughout our meal we were not checked on nor were we asked how our meal was and again were no apologies or explanations in the service we had received. Incidentally we also had to share our table in the end with another couple as were told by staff that my partner and I “wouldn’t mind sharing”. I think that after everything up to this point you would like to hope someone in management would have found these poor souls another place to be seated rather than add to the upset and annoyance already caused. The worst thing was that this was assumed and at no point did a member of staff throughout our meal checked nor asked how our meal let alone asking us whether we would share our table which was supposed to be wholly exclusive and reserved in advance. As a result of us being messed about so much and waiting for our meal which we had already pre-paid for my partner and I had missed our train and consequently our connection meaning we had to fork out another £40.00 between us to get the next train home. On your website it states that it is ‘A Canal side venue that oozes Camden. Live music, good drinks and interesting people’. Unfortunately this was not the case in our experience and has failed to make our experience Lock 17, Camden and indeed the City of London a good one. This has well and truly ruined our Valentines Day Weekend in London and I am so angered at how we were treated. Not only was out table not reserved, the staff attitude was shocking, and food both late and unappetising. I have enclosed a copy of my Groupon Deal Voucher which came to £9.00 and I am looking to get this reimbursed as not only do I feel that the service was less than poor, but also that we waited so long for what was meant to be a very simple and quick dinner before we headed home. I am also looking to be reimbursed for the train fare for which we had to pay out for due to the length of time it took to be seen, seated and served at Lock 17. Our visit in total lasted an hour and a half and we only had a single course of which was a smaller sized portion, and whilst I can sympathised that the bar and restaurant were busy due to it being Valentines Day I am really quite flabbergasted at the lack of concern or care for customers. There was no apology nor any thanks or complimentary service given at the time which for a busy and centrally located establishment like Lock 17 you would have thought there would be. I look forward to hearing from you in response to this letter and Please feel free to contact me if needs be. Miss Abbey Price

just try to kindly ask the people who sit on back seats to keep quiet whilst the show is going on or to minimise their voices as it is kinda destructing.
