A registered charity welcoming over 18,000 visitors annually, Spitalfields City Farm was established in 1978 and is home to a variety of animals including rabbits, donkeys, cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, ponies and ferrets; plus some are rescue animals, like the ex-battery hens. The staff, many of whom are volunteers, work hard to give them a better life. Following their animal interactions, visitors can grab a coffee and a bite to eat at the on-site cafe. A community-based project, the farm holds events and Sunday markets with live music, and provides education programmes in animal care and welfare, and how to grow vegetables.
