Theatre Tribe is a company based in London and the south-east of England. The theatre offers holiday camps for children and young people aged between seven and fifteen years, with an emphasis on the performing arts (drama, dance and musical performance). The students are known as 'tribe members' and rehearse a musical theatre production over the course of a week, performing a show to a live audience (including parents and guardians) at the end of the final day. The courses are led by people with professional experience of theatre in London's West End, including in very popular shows. The camps take place over five day periods during the Easter and Summer school holidays, at locations around the south-east of England. Theatre Tribe prides itself on being both a holiday camp and an educational experience for students. Only eighteen students are present on each course, and the performances are ensemble pieces, meaning that each of the eighteen students takes a part as a performer, and that these parts are of roughly equal stature. Scripts can be adapted to fit each student's age, language and ability and Theatre Tribe aims to 'challenge' each student. International students are encouraged to attend and have done in the past. Parents are barred from rehearsals, but are invited to watch the final performance, which is meant to be based upon professional musical theatre on London's West End. This performance is recorded and a DVD is offered to parents and guardians.
