From Our Editors

Big Momma's is a traditional African restaurant which celebrates the life and cooking of Nigerian chef Auntie Joe, who was famous in her home town of Warri for her grilled meats. Inspired by the cuisine of Nigeria, Morocco, Kenya and South Africa, chefs serve an array of soups, meats, fish and desserts, which can be served with beer or wine. The restaurant also includes a bakery which prepares traditional African bread such as agege and chapati, as well as ciabattas, flat bread, focaccias and Jewish rye bread.

Service was excellent. The starter and dessert were very good. The mains the " egusi soup" was somewhat bland as I explained to the waitress. All in all we enjoyed our meal and will be going back to try the other meals.

Sadly we were the only diners in, service was excellent but food wasn't anything exceptional. Seemed like mass produced stuff that had been frozen then microwaved. If you are looking for this type of cuisine, there is a far better establishment in Wolverton, Milton Keynes.

We went on a Sunday and found we were one of two tables. it's a big restaurant so it felt awkward and there was no atmosphere. We were told a lot of the food was off the menu because they were busy the night before. As a business you should expect to be busy at weekends and prepare so customers aren't short changed. Both my partner and I found the food very bland - my starter was completely overloaded with flavourless iceberg lettuce. For the mains the sauces were extremely bland and there wasn't enough so the dishes ended up being very dry. No one came to check on us to see if everything was ok, nor did they ask how the food was when taking our dishes away. There needs to be a big rethink on the menu - my first impression of African food leaves a lot to be desired I'm afraid, and staff training in customer service is greatly needed.

Awsome service, very attentive, food tasted great and was presented well, but meat content in such dishes was very poor. Chicken curry....3 prices of chicken.... Lamb dish... Very small gristly prices, and very little of them. Drinks prices not too bad compared to other places! So very good ......just meat content too small considering the price!!

Food was ok - nothing special. Which was disappointing. We were hoping for something different. Big restaurant - only one other table occupied (with 4 kids) - lots of running around. Waitress tried hard. Drinks prices were very reasonable for City Centre. A pleasant experience but that was all.
