From Our Editors

The lively offerings of the 1950s descend upon Newcastle’s CastleGate for a one-day Oh My Darling vintage fair. Packed with stalls selling retro wares, the fair also includes live music, a photographer and a circus performer, as well as the opportunity to have hair styled in a traditional vintage style. Each guest will tuck into a spread of afternoon tea featuring sandwiches, bagels, wraps, scones and cakes, and will take away a goody bag.

Very disappointing after queuing for nearly an hour without any info from staff to get in we were told we wouldn't get afternoon tea until 3 o'clock even though we had booked for 1 o'clock. Had a look around the stalls not very impressive. We left with a promise of a refund let's hope they are as good as there word no sign of a refund a week on.

We did not arrive before noon but still queued for over half an hour just to get in , once inside utter disorganisation too many shoppers not enough room too few stalls only 5 selling vintage no way could we be seated for tea so we went without ... Free parting gift .... Where ..... ? People were queqeing even to complain !!!!! We travelled over an hour to go to this event and feel very let down also this could be on a personal note as some people may have loved it but many of us felt the music was too loud for a small venue like that. I would like to give the vendors an opportunity to redeem themselves I can be contacted on nIcola.jukes@live.co.uk

Very disappointing. Long queues just to get tickets seen. Not many sales stalls. Long waiting time for afternoon tea, people were actually standing around waiting to jump on an empty table. Not very organised at all. Noticed through a doorway that some food was being prepared on the floor. Myself and the others in our group were seriously not impressed with the whole event and left within an hour of arriving. Requested a refund as did a lot of other people and have yet to receive a reply.

Better organisation required for the afternoon tea as we arrived at 15:00 and tables were piled high with dirty dishes. The staff were carrying items individually, 2 cups and saucers, a teapot etc and would have been better with a vintage tea trolley to clear items and serve the cake stands. A couple of large teapots carried round to serve tea would have worked a lot better rather than providing a teapot per table, especially as a number of people were sitting at one table, this would have sped up service and made clearing away easier. The staff were very pleasant and polite but overwhelmed by the task, it would have been nice if the people serving had been dressed as vintage waitresses as they would have been easier to identify and added to the atmosphere as the room was beautifully decorated and the entertainment was excellent. The stalls were great and I bought some wonderful vintage items at very reasonable prices.

I attended the Castle Gate event on 14/03/15. Total disaster!! Far too many people in one area, not enough stalls, no seating and not enough staff to serve. Only took 5 minutes to view stalls as could not get near them, stood waiting for a table for 20 mins, without success and spent another 30 minutes queing to get a refund, and i,m still waiting!!

The serving of the afternoon tea was a bit of a shambles. Recommendations: waitressess to be recognisable ie uniform white blouse black skirt or apron. They should have been allocated set tables as they were running from table to table & losing track of who they were serving. We waited over an hour to be served - to be then served in bits & pieces ie tea came first with cups - no saucers, then food - no plates then given saucer for food but food lovely when it came
