Based in historical Ponteland, once the scene of a peace treaty between Henry III and Alexander of Scotland, The Blackbird Inn provides modern pub cuisine from the site of a converted castle tower. It whips up British classics blended with offerings from further afield, plus a range of six cask-conditioned ales and traditional ciders. Groups of revellers can hire out the Castle Room or the 16th-century Tunnel Room, which contains a hole through which hot oil was once poured to fight off invading Scots.
The Blackbird Inn has received a largely positive response on TripAdvisor, with 50% of users recommending the eatery to others. Particular praise has gone to the generous portion sizes of the Sunday lunch as well as reasonable pricing.
