From Our Editors

2AA rossette Awarded, situated on the Thames in South Oxfordshire, Goring on Thames provides a rural retreat from the hustle and bustle. Guests at the Miller Of Mansfield can enjoy country walks, boating on the river and the local traditional British festival celebrations. The individually-designed rooms nod back to the building’s roots, with antique fireplaces, wooden floors and marble bathrooms, whilst also embracing the 21st century with flat screen TVs, high pressure showers and complimentary Ren Skincare toiletries. Guests can begin the day with a selection from the breakfast menu including full English with black pudding, pork sausage, streaky bacon, tomato, egg and mushrooms; Braden Rost smoked salmon with scrambled eggs; or natural fruit yoghurt. The husband and wife owner team both trained with The Fat Duck Group in Bray, and use it as inspiration to create simple but elegant food. The restaurant menu encompasses British cuisine, including dishes such as fillet of local venison and poached celeriac fondant.

A really friendly place to stay. The village is beautiful and the hotel is very well kept. Food was excellent and the near location of the river and walks made this a brilliant short stay getaway. The only negative was the difficulty in parking. The hotel has only 2 spaces and whole of the village is double yellow lines with very few road side parking spaces. Although there is a village car park which is free to park from 6pm through to 8am it is not the solution if you are staying at the hotel.

Lovely accommodation and friendly, efficient staff. Food was very good but expect la carte (very very small portions) fine if you have 3 courses.

I do understand that it is an 18th century pub/restaurant, but the flooring is badly in need of paint. Also we found the bathroom very small indeed and could have done with a door. The carpets leading to the bedrooms on the first floor are badly in need of a clean. The bad windows in room no. 8 could do with blinds or net curtains because it faces the main road.
