Not particularly satisfied with this course, but would still do it again at this price. I did leave feeling more confident in my ability to help someone in trouble (more on that at the end), but: - a lot of stuff was only mentioned once. No written material given out. Too much information in too little time to write it all down properly. Will probably forget a lot of it. - the teaching didn't feel very organised. It was almost a rambling broad-brush monologue by the instructor (although there was a lot of participation). For example, we were told about various things that should be in a first aid kit, but the subject of first aid kits was never explained as a list or in detail. - everyone passed the course. There was no individual testing. I was pretty sure a couple of people there wouldn't have remembered quite a lot of what was said. Not good in my opinion. - the instructor often seemed to be teaching us how not to get sued for being a bad first aider, rather than how to help a sick person. - incorrect facts: 1) was taught about 'surgical shock'. Googling afterwards revealed this is a 1940s or homeopathic way of saying 'hypovolemic/hemorrhagic shock'. No idea why they taught us this. 2) was told that in the UK, out of 400-odd heart attacks a day, 8 people survive. Actual figures are more like 500 heart attacks out of which 300 survive. These make me wonder if they got anything else wrong. - having said all that, the instructor came across as professional and confident, and as I said, I do feel a lot more confident I could help someone in trouble now. - particularly liked the bit where we were asked to deal with difficult situations when first assessing a casualty, like there being many casualties at once. Hope this helps you if you're wondering whether to go for this or a more expensive course!
