From Our Editors

First opened in Soho in 1926, Patisserie Valerie follows artisan baking traditions brought to London by Belgian-born Madam Valerie whose mission was to introduce continental patisserie to the English. Now boasting over 120 multiple venues nationwide, the company adorns its cafes with a 1950s-inspired decor and serves up an array of freshly-made cakes, craft patisseries, breakfasts, lunches, coffees and loose leaf teas. Their specialties are artisan-baked croissants and viennoiseries, as well as homemade Italian-style gelato ice cream.

Been there before and it was far better last time - quality of cakes not so good a little diisapointing - pastry hard and thick, quiche impossible to cut with a knife or chew! Would I recommend to go there again NO Not on this visit.

Very noisy and crowded when we were there, unfortunately our visit clashed with half term. We had prebooked however reserved table was right outside gents toilets so we moved. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks (only two teas, nothing fancy) and then another 20 before cakes and sandwiches arrived. No one explained the routine, food just arrived with no chance for me to say I don't eat meat. At outset we were offered free top up drinks when required however trying to get a staff member to accommodate us proved really difficult. Disappointing visit and nowhere near as good as other afternoon teas we have had. We won't be back
