From Our Editors

The Bell Inn is a Stretton-based country pub embodying the traditions of an old ham and eggery. They specialise in traditional poacher's meals, including hearty British classics such as steaks, roasts and pies accompanied by a variety of ales, wines and spirits. Customers can soak up the sun in the venue's outdoor garden, or ward off the cold in the dining hall.

After an iffy start, the entrance sign points you up a non-lit alley way which as we’d got our elderly Mums with us, wasn’t good....then to be told we don’t do Groupon on a Saturday which I’d had a long conversation on the telephone with someone there when I booked it....that young lady didn’t attend to us again which I was quite pleased as we felt she was rude. The young lady that did attend us was lovely and cheerful and polite. One reason I’d chosen The Bell as rheybdud rabbit stew and my Mum & I love rabbit and you don’t see it on the menu very often. There is a limited Groupon menu but luckily rabbit stew is on there! You have to have a starter & main course with the Groupon offer and we all got a glass of wine with our voucher - we could chose any wine we wanted, there wasn’t a restriction on choice. My Mother-in-law had the vegetable pie for her main course...my goodness me - it was a HUGE plate of food with a homemade pie and loads of chips & veg all cooked to perfection she said. The rabbit stew was gorgeous....mum & I both enjoyed ours. My partner had ham, eggs & chips which he enjoyed. The portions were so filling we couldn’t fit a pudding in but ever the sales lady...they do “take-home” puddings to have later! The chef & owner did come out to see we had enjoyed our meals and listened to our comments about the portions being so vast! I did forget to mention to the Chef though that the waitress had told us the soup was “lumpy lumpy”! What’s that we asked....vegetable we were told. Now, non of us that night are vegetarians but my partners brother & his wife are strict vegetarians and if they’d opted for he “vegetable” soup it would’ve be catastrophic as it had MEAT in it!! That could cause lots of problems for what is a new business developing but could put others off.
