Groupon Asks Matthew Campbell, owner of Fracture Theatre, to tell us about the dancing styles covered at the school, and about his favourite dancers.
G: What's your dancing background?
"I have danced for over 17 years in a variety of styles, and have trained at many local dance and drama schools including the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, where I studied a degree in community theatre. When I returned home after my degree, I trained as a Zumba and Bokwa instructor, and have since started a PGCE in teaching."
G: Tell us more about the genres available at the school.
"We have a wide range of dance styles available, including beginners' tap, beginners' street, commercial street, urban choreography, contemporary, kids' street, zumba, dance fitness and musical theatre, as well as a 'show group', our acting company and technical theatre group."
G: Can you talk us through a typical class?
"A typical class would begin with a 10- to 15-minute warm-up, followed by a fun starter activity, then a main chunk of teaching (technique, choreography, specialist moves and so on), and finally, a 10-minute cool down."
G: Who's your favourite dancer of all time, and why?
"I have to say my favourite dancers are Diversity. We worked with them in the summer of 2013 and we had an amazing time! They were fab and they have made street dance accessible to so many more people than ever before! Along with Diversity, I have to add some amazing, inspirational YouTube dance teachers: Jasmine Meakin, Dejan Tubic, Miguel Zarate and David Leoghton. Search them – they're fab!"
