From Our Editors

Formed in 1847 following the purchase of the house where the author of Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet was born, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is devoted to preserving the playwright's legacy and celebrating all things Shakespearean. Aside from the house where Shakespeare spent his youth, visitors can also see his mother's farm, his wife Anne Hathaway's cottage, and the house where his daughter lived with her husband. The organisation's vaults contain over a million documents, 55,000 books and 12,000 museum objects, as well as the Royal Shakespeare Company’s archive of theatre records. The Trust is the headquarters of International Shakespeare Association, devoted to spreading knowledge about the writer's work throughout the world, and offers formal and informal education programmes.

An excellent and educational day out - make sure to ask the actors in the garden to play your favourite scene!

Get the ticket to view all venues - it's valid for 12 months so you don't have to visit them all at once.

Not to be rushed through - so there is time to look at 'the book'. Upstairs in the house - talk seemed to depend on member of staff in situ.
