From Our Editors

Located amidst the Shropshire countryside, yet only minutes away from the centre of Telford, Mercure Telford Madeley Court Hotel is in fact a converted 16th-century manor house. Guests are treated to suitably historic stays, with individually decorated rooms and optional four-poster beds. The hotel's restaurant, The Priory, is decorated like an old dining hall, complete with a roaring open fire and dining delicacies to match.

Poor quality food, desserts were like miniature ones from Aldi , and there were workmen walking through the rest

Tried to contact hotel to complain afternoon tea experience but was told manager is on annual leave for a week. We waited 50 minutes for our shop bought cakes and sausage rolls. The sandwiches were disgraceful and the coffee we asked for never arrived. There was staff lounging around on the sofas in reception and no one came out to check if everything was ok. A total let down. This was a father’s day present too

We had to wait 1 3/4 hrs for our tea !! EXCUSE WAS THAT NOBODY HAD PUT THE BOOKING IN THE DIARY. Once the food came it was ok but nothing special.

We attended for afternoon tea, which was a birthday gift I had purchased for my friend. Other then the area we were given for the afternoon tea it was terrible. Bad and very slow service. On making the booking dietary requirements were given, however on the day the afternoon tea had not been adapted. In fact it was the same as the couple's next to us. When challenged regarding the ham sandwiches and pork pie for a pescatarian, we were advised that it was ok as only one of us wouldn't eat them, therefore the other person sharing the afternoon tea would have to go without and not only that the non pescatarian was supposed to eat all the ham sandwiches so that this would leave all the tuna, never been to an afternoon tea with such limited selection . After requiring the waitress speak with the kitchen some egg sandwiches were provided. The sandwiches in the afternoon tea were quite dry as if they had been prepared well in advance and the scones were also cold. We also had to ask for the prosecco that came with the voucher. Despite all this it was a nice quiet setting and me and my friend enjoyed our catch up. As we had barely eaten the cakes we had asked for a box to take them away to save waste. However after requesting a takeaway box when we were leaving, we finally got the cakes to take away 35mins later as we waited in the reception!! Service is so slow and confused even though there were no customers , no one even came to ask if we wanted more drinks etc. Would not recommend!
