From Our Editors

Ryedale Folk Museum features cottage gardens, traditional cornfield and atmospheric historic dwellings from prehistory to the 1950s, including an Iron Age roundhouse and a Tudor manor house. Some of the structures were saved from demolition and rebuilt by volunteers, while other have been recreated from the ground up. The buildings house period-specific collections assembled over the last five decades, attempting to show how people lived, worked and played in the past. To enhance the experience, the facility also offers activities such as Victorian toy making or countryside craft workshops.

A very interesting museum that gives a wide range of information about life in Yorkshire in past times,as well as the evolution of homes and living in past centuries. Well worth a visit!

We visited mid week. Yes it was quiet, but there seemed to be no activities going on, such as blacksmiths doing their stuff and other interesting activities. Parking may also be a problem for some people. If it's raining, then you will definitely need either wellies or another pair of old shoes.

We were blessed with a sunny day, which made the visit easier as a lot of the time you are outdoors. Very interesting insight into how we once lived but the stars of the show, without doubt, were the three piglets who squeelingly led us to the point were we could buy them food. Great scenery and very helpful staff. No reservations in recommending a visit.

Great day at Ryedale. Much more than I expected with very interesting buildings and contents. You can also feed the chickens and pigs. There are small packets of food which can be purchased by them for just 50p. Great way to spend 2-3 hours.

An excellent visit. This place is like a tardis. Decieving from outside and massive inside. Took us 3 hrs to go around and Im sure we never took everything in so a revisit is planned.
