The guide was really good and informative but it was let down by the amount of people allowed on each tour as we couldn't always get near enough to hear what was being said.

Walk the customers back to the start rather than leaving them in a graveyard - not everyone is from York.

Very disappointing route. Through tower gardens and down skeldergate, hardly spooky. Expected cobbled streets and dark alleyways..the city has enough of them. We were kept out of the city?

This is a copy of my trip advisor review "I would like to start by mentioning my complete and utter disappointment in the tour which has quickly turned to anger at this company. We booked for 2 adults the Halloween special. We arrived at the Golden Fleece on time to find the tour had begun without us over the road. We were faced with a man (of student age) dressed in pjs and 4 others (of student age) dressed poorly as skeletons who screeched and groaned instead of using words. I understand this type of thing may appeal to some, but that is not where the disappointment ended. Quoting their own descriptions (above).... York Terror Trail resurrects history with grim tales of times long since passed. - We were told around 5 tales in the whole 90mins, none of which i hadnt already heard in a much clearer and more entertaining way when reading my Terry Deary York Horrible Histories book. The guide didn't seem to know what he was talking about and the coverage seems pulled directly from the initial pages of the Horrible Histories book. Crewed by a mob of skeletons, the fast-paced experience is enhanced by lighting effects, music and an extremely suspect catapult, as guests are taken on an eerie journey. - reading this again has made me think I should request a refund or report this company to an ombudsman. There was no lighting, music or catapult (blatant lies?) and the only reason the tour stretches 90mins is because the 'skeletons' mess about groaning and fighting and you have to watch before you can move on. No pace, as I said 90mins = 5 facts. Departing from The Golden Fleece pub, explorers will visit the city's cobbled streets, dark corners and forgotten alleys before ending their 90-minute tour at the community run Golden Ball pub where nerves can begin to settle. - we didn't go down cobbled streets, dark corners or forgotten alleys we were led around the outskirts of the city (wonder if there is a permit issue there?). Infuriatingly the places he did choose to stop at didnt seem to have any relevance to what he was saying and he often admitted that you couldnt see what he was talking about from where we stood. We didn't finish at the golden ball pub, but in a graveyard/ field where the skeletons appeared out of a tent. It was a long, dark and un signposted walk back into the centre. This group of, I would guess, drama/arts students are ripping people off with a poorly strung together walk which by passes all of the most interesting and historical tales of York (as a school teacher I went on a better free walk as part of a school trip 2 years ago). Looking through the photographs on this site I can honestly say we went to none of those places and the guides were definitely not dressed like that (again pjs and old skeleton onsies?). This trip is falsely advertised and quite frankly an embarrassment to York and I urge anyone considering supporting this company not to (there are plenty to choose from) and I urge Groupon not to work with this group again. I have been on ghost walks in other places which were fantastic, don't let this be your memory of York..."
