Over 900 years old, Newcastle’s Castle Keep is a Norman stone tower overlooking the River Tyne, featuring a wooden bridge and Great Hall
What You'll Get
The city of Newcastle derives its name from the medieval landmark of Castle Keep, which has its earliest origins in Roman times and was later built up by Robert Curthose to defend the English kingdom against the Scots. Up to five visitors are free to explore this scheduled ancient monument site, with three atmospheric floors ready to be discovered. Guests can march through the garrison room, once used as a prison, and wise up on history in the museum. They can also travel up spiral staircases to marvel at the Great Hall, and check out the 99ft stone well in the well room. Entry is available daily until 5pm.
