How much coverage do 1000, 2000 and 3000 hairs provide roughly?
The coverage depends on a few factors, as for example the density, texture and the colour of the donor hairs and whether the transplanted area is thinning or is completely bald. For a dense brown/black donor hair area, 1000 hairs will cover the size of an area as big as 3 eyebrows.
How is the FUT procedure performed?
A strip of hairs is extracted from the back of the head, which is then separated into individual hair follicles and transplanted where hair is missing or thinned. See more details on how the procedure is performed here
How long does the process take?
The procedure usually lasts 2-4 hours.
What sort of aftercare if any is provided?
Easy to follow post-procedure instructions will be given of how to care for the new transplanted hair the first few days following the procedure.
*How long is the recovery time after the procedure? *
Since the procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, patient can very quickly return back to their normal activities. It is recommended however to ‘take it easy’ for a couple of days in order to aid healing and avoid any potential occurrence of swelling. Patient can gradually return to their exercise routine or manual labour work in a week or so.
How long does the consultation take?
The consultation usually lasts 20 minutes, where the medical history is taken, suitability is determined and possible outcome is discussed.
Can the patient go straight home after the procedure?
Yes, they can go straight home following the procedure.
Is the procedure painful?
There might be some slight discomfort for a few seconds when the anaesthetic will be initially applied before starting the procedure. Patients might also feel some discomfort after the procedure will have finished, since the anaesthetic will start to wear off. This can be easily addressed by taking a paracetamol or ibuprofen.
How long does it take to see the new hair?
Usually, the new hair is starting to grow straight away. Some or all hairs will fall and from the root a new stronger and healthy hair will grow. In average it takes 6-9 months to see some growth with the full result to be seen in 1 year, but in some cases (esp. for women) it could take longer.
Are there any side effects to have the treatment?
As with any procedure, however minor, side effects (such as swelling, infection, bleeding, scarring or scalp numbness) might appear. In hair transplant are very rare and might occur in up to 1% of the cases.
How long do patients wait for the treatment once they have had the consultation?
Differs per location’s availability but normally not longer than a few weeks for London.
Who can benefit from having this hair transplant?
Any person older than 21 years (except pregnant women) who have experienced permanent (male of female) pattern baldness could be candidates for this hair transplant procedure, including people who want to lower/change the shape of their hairline. This offer is not valid for eyebrows/beard and for curly or very thin hair and sparse donor areas.
Can customer bring someone with me whilst they have the treatment?
It is not necessary to bring someone to escort the patient home, since they will be capable to do that themselves. Besides the medical team, no one else is allowed into the procedure room, thus if they are thinking to bring someone to keep company during the procedure, that won’t be possible. Patients can chat with the staff, have a nap or watch a movie.
Is a local anaesthetic performed for the treatment?
Yes, the whole procedure is performed using local anaesthetic.
