Groupon’s Guide to Dublin
Nestled on Ireland’s east coast at the mouth of the River Liffey, Dublin attracts travellers with the elegance of the old stone bridges, cobbled alleyways, Georgian avenues and scenic city parks such as St Stephen’s Green and Phoenix Park with Dublin Zoo. Culinary options span the globe with various cuisine served in numerous restaurants, while bars serve an array of beverages, including the iconic Guiness beer.
History enthusiasts can pay a visit to the iconic 13th-century Dublin Castle and the medieval St Patrick’s Cathedral, while the National Museum of Ireland provides more insight into Irish heritage and culture. Those with an eye for architecture can take a stroll by the Fitzwilliam and Merrion Squares, where redbrick terraces, brightly coloured doorways, and detailed pillars stand for Dublin’s Georgian heritage. For trips off the beaten track, skipping the usual crowds at Temple Bar and taking a stroll around the quieter parts of the local area will take visitors to a portal of arts, music, and literature at Trinity College with its 18th-century Old Library, an ode to knowledge dominated by impressively musty books and busts of Western writers and philosophers.
Dublin greets guests with a maritime climate featuring temperate winters and cool summers. May and June bring a sunny period, while the further summer months delight visitors with average temperatures of about 22°C. Winter is rich in precipitations that come accompanied by cold weather.
Groupon’s Guide to County Cork
The largest of all in Ireland, County Cork takes the traveller through an array of rugged mountain slopes and scattered cliffs, flat peatlands and lush woodlands, with a shore laced by pebbly beaches, promontories and peninsulas. Washed by the River Bandon, the River Blackwater and the River Lee, County Cork’s landscape is also dotted by tens of lakes.
Cork is the largest city within the county, a hub for heritage tourism based around sights like the 18th century English Market, the 8-bell Church of St Anne and the City Hall plus the Opera House. St. Patrick’s Street is the shopping backbone of Cork. Fota Island is particularly appealing to tourists interested in wildlife, being home to the namesake Wildlife Park and to the Fota House and Gardens.
