Groupon’s Guide To Snowdonia National Park

Covering over 820 square miles of scenic landscapes, Snowdonia National Park is the largest park in Wales, boasting waterfalls, lakes, valleys and mountains, and offering a variety of outdoor activities.

The region is packed with attractions suitable for both the adventurous types and those keen on some more peaceful breaks. One of the most popular sites in the area is Llechwedd Slate Caverns, a place where visitors can learn the history of slate quarrying and embark on Llechwedd Deep Mine Tour to take an underground train ride and discover the disused slate caverns. The attraction also offers zip lines and large underground trampolines, as well as the Bounce Below, Europe’s longest zip course. Those who want to discover the life of a Victorian copper miner can take a trip to Sygun Copper Mine, while the secrets of the traditional Welsh tapestry may be learnt at Trefriw Woollen Mills powered by a vintage water turbine.

The unique Welsh scenery can be also explored thanks to The Ffestiniog Railway, the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway, that still operates some of its original locomotives. To feel the atmosphere of a traditional Welsh village, guests can head to Portmeirion, home to a number of historic cottages, stylish shops, cosy cafes, and some award-winning restaurants. An array of historic and cultural artefacts await visitors at The National Museum Wales, while animal lovers can head to visit The Welsh Mountain Zoo. Holidaymakers interested in a more relaxing stay can drive through slow-paced villages of Snowdonia and sip on a cup of tea in one of the local tea rooms.

Travellers may also scale great heights by mountain climbing or taking a trip to the Tree Top Adventure centre, simultaneously getting a new perspective on the sights below. To take a breather, guests may visit the Dolwyddelan Castle, an unusual rectangular medieval structure that stands atop a hill and boasts dramatic vistas.
