The Event

The BBC Concert Orchestra dives into a world of nostalgic reflection Monday 31 March at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in the Southbank Centre. George Butterworth’s orchestral rhapsody ‘A Shropshire Lad’ invokes a reflection on mortality and the shortness of life, whilst pieces by Debussy and Ravel look back on those who died during the Great War. Samuel Barber’s impression of Tennessee summers gone by is led by American soprano Nicole Cabell.

  • Maurice Ravel: Le tombeau de Couperin
  • Claude Debussy: Berceuse héroïque
  • Samuel Barber: Knoxville: Summer of 1915, Op.24
  • Leos Janácek: The Fiddler’s Child
  • George Butterworth: A Shropshire Lad
  • Béla Bartók: Dance Suite

Customer Reviews

I appreciate the overall performance of the orchestra was very good I would like to hear some more popular pieces so that I would be able to enjoy the whole concert rather than 1 or 2 pieces.
