The English National Opera present Rodelinda at The Coliseum, every other day from 28 February to 15 March. Widely regarded as one of Handel’s greatest operas, the performance follows the tale of Bertarido as he is driven from his kingdom by the usurping duke Grimoaldo. With Bertarido presumed dead, his grieving wife is imprisoned by Grimoaldo as he attempts to persuade her to marry him and thereby seize the now vacant throne for himself. However, Grimoaldo’s schemes run into difficulty when the exiled King returns in disguise. Directed by Richard Jones and conducted by baroque specialist Christian Curnyn, the opera’s cast includes soprano Rebecca Evans, countertenor Iestyn Davies, tenor John Mark Ainsley and mezzo-soprano Susan Bickley. The show has a running time of around three hours and 30 minutes, including two intervals.
