The Event

Acclaimed British pianist John Lill celebrates his 70th birthday at the Royal Festival Hall this March. Playing with the help of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the performance begins with the turbulent drama of Brahms’ 1880 Tragic Overture before moving on to Rachmaninov’s technically demanding Piano Concerto No.3. The show draws to a close with a rendition of Dvořák’s spirited Eighth Symphony, with the piece’s Bohemian folk music influences bringing a little extra cheer to the occasion.

Choose from the following options for entry to John Lill’s 70th Birthday Concert:

  • £7.50 for a ticket in seating area seven (50% off)

  • £15.90 for a ticket in seating area four (47% off)

  • £19.90 for a ticket in seating area three (48% off)

##Reviews Previous performances by John Lill picked up rave reviews from impressed Herald Scotland and Coventry Telegraph critics. They were keen to highlight the pianist’s technical ability, as well as his knack for capturing the feel of a piece.

“Lill’s architectural command of the large canvas of Brahms’s huge concerto has been well documented here over the decades. And it was no less awesome on Saturday, displaying the rich plurality of Brahms’s themes, the emotional volcano that bubbles at the heart of the great slow movement, and the spring-loaded propulsion of energy in the fantastic finale.”
