We are surprised to see the standard of the afternoon tea here today -- absolutely gorgeous. Fresh sandwiches with 3 fillings, Scones come out warm, my little one enjoys the deserts on the top. We have to "fight" over her to get some under her spoon although she s already full.
The most amazing thing is staffs here are so friendly and nice, especially the female staff comes around to check if everything is fine and ask if we need more drinks. This is proper good service.
We will definitely come back.
Booked for 12.30 via groupon website, rang the hotel an hour before whilst travelling there to confirm the booking. Was told that the restaurant wasn't open until 3pm and we couldn't have our afternoon tea until then, so my friend and I had to go elsewhere beforehand. Once inside, was stopped by 2 security guards in the foyer asking what we were doing there. Felt a little intimidated and uncomfortable. We explained we had come for afternoon tea, and after a short wait was taken to the empty dining room. The view was nice over looking the thames. We asked for our tea and coffee & I asked if we could order a jug of sangria. The waitress said "Are you going to pay for that?" I replied "Of course!!" Feeling quite offended to be asked quite an awkward question. I said we would like our prosecco that was included in my voucher, again the waitress looked confused and asked to see my voucher before she gave us any prosecco. I told her I would find the voucher but the internet was slow. She then brought another member of staff over to check that I had a voucher. By this time my friend and I were quite embarrassed as it really felt like they didn't believe we had a groupon voucher or intended to pay. I showed my voucher and then eventually the prosecco appeared. I asked for a pitcher of sangria again, and the 2nd waitress said it will be £15 though is that ok?? I was like yes of course! We have money, this is becoming a bit embarrassing to have to be asked again. When it was served the waiter actually brought the card machine with him, which was strange as we were still eating and drinking. I was expecting to be billed after we had finished which is normal in any dining venue. I asked the waiter if there was a reason I was expected to pay immediately? Was this normal? He just shrugged. I felt so embarrassed, this was supposed to be a treat for my friend and it just felt awkward from start to finish. To keep having to prove that we planned to pay. Then when we left again we had to walk past the security guards. This is not somewhere I would reccomend for a nice relaxing afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is supposed to be a treat and have a nice atmosphere.
