About New Lanark World Heritage Site
New Lanark World Heritage Site is home to an 18th-century cotton mill, once managed by a noted social reformer Robert Owen. History buffs can observe the period machinery, and take in the 19th-century furnishings of Robert Owen's house. A theatre screens films about the man himself, and a ride lets visitors become acquainted with the ghost of Annie McLeod, an 1820s mill girl. A multi-sensory exhibition explores Owen's progressive ideas regarding education, and youngsters can don old-timey garb at a reconstructed classroom. Displays of cotton industry and yarn-spinning artefacts are also on display. Tours, craft workshops and a mill Shop stocks a range of beautiful gifts, Scottish products and mementoes.
