Operated by the only cruise ferry company sailing the high seas between Newcastle and Amsterdam, the vast DFDS Seaways ship offers shops, several bars, and a choice of cafes and restaurants. Live international bands play in the Columbus Club, and a casino and film lounge provide alternative wave-cresting hijinks.
Guests take their trip in one of the ship’s sea view cabins, featuring en-suite toilet and shower, and coming complete with bedding, towels and a wardrobe. An afternoon departure from Newcastle means that the ship reaches the Dutch port the next morning at 9.30am, with coaches available to whisk passengers into the city centre arriving from 10.15am. Once in Amsterdam, entertainment takes a different form, with art options including the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum. After exploring the city’s cultural attractions, day-trippers return to the ship for a 5.30pm departure from Ijmuiden port, arriving back in Newcastle at 9am the following morning. Guests also receive a £10 voucher to be redeemed against on board products and services during their trip.
Passengers were particularly pleased with DFDS Seaways’ friendly service and enjoyable journeys, awarding the ferry company a comfortable 8/10 on AFerry.co.uk.
