So it’s not afternoon tea like the Ritz or a spa like The Sanctuary but it is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. The tea was lovely, the hotel is bijou and pleasant. The spa is tiny (basically a jacuzzi) but the massage was delicious. All the staff were helpful and polite.
Changing rooms too small, chair needed inside each changing area to assist guest in derobing. Both changing rooms and directly outside very claustrophobic and needs reorganisation as totally wrong and ackward for guests.
Spa pool way too small. Sauna ok.
Massage / facial very disappointing.
Afternoon tea Ok, scones stale, cooked and frozen ahead of time, I suspect.
Sandwiches mostly ok, drinks good options.
Unfortunately, I won’t be returning. I feel I was way overcharged for this event.
The restaurant is dated looking and aspects like paper napkins and average tea bags instead of fresh tea made it seem quite cheap- also only instant decaf coffee. The food was disappointing as the sandwiches were just not nice. The cheese and houmous sandwich didn't even have proper cheese, it was straight out of the packet and it's not hard to get sandwiches right. On the plus side the sweets were much better, particularly the scones and the staff couldn't do enough to try and be helpful and accomodating.
The spa is very small and it's quite a strange environment as the reception is in the same room as the jacuzzi. We didn't use the facilities because they were pretty basic and I'm not sure why anyone would want to relax there whilst fully clothed guests are being greeted and hanging around for treatments in the same room with an open door to the rest of the hotel.
My mum really enjoyed her hour long massage which was the whole point, as it was a Christmas present. I had a male masseuse which I would have liked to have been warned about prior to the treatment or booking as although I would have liked to think I'd be fine with it I actually did find it quite off-putting.
Overall, if I had seen more honest reviews I would have paid more for a better experience. £70 would be just about suited to this package if the spa access was worth anything, but ultimately we didn't use it as it didn't look relaxing and I was very disappointed with the sandwiches.
The highlight of this visit was definitely the staff! Especially those in the restaurant/bar. The spa isn't quite as spacious as we expected, its very small and has a steam room and jacuzzi. Friendly receptionist there. Afternoon tea very nice. Would go again
