Guests are taken on a rum-fuelled adventure through the history of the pirate-coveted drink, with six samples along the way, plus a tutorial in daiquiri-making. Throughout the session, customers will learn insiders' tips on professional rum-tasting, in addition to identifying the geographical origins and distilling methods associated with different rum types. Tell us about the sessions.
"Six rums, six very different sections, taking our guests on a rum journey and telling some amazing stories. The events are fun and informative, aimed at educating, enlightening and entertaining, but above all, giving our audiences the opportunity to have a great laugh. Also, as part of the experience, you'll learn how to mix the perfect daiquiri."
Give us a sense of some of the rums involved in the tasting.
"We're independent, so we can taste anything and everything. Great rum is made everywhere from South America to the Indies and in between. The stories are endless and inextricably linked into history. Rum shaped the part of the world where it's made (as well as less obvious places) and there's all kinds of light and shade in the tales we tell."
Do you have any tips for aspiring rum experts?
"Taste it neat! It's hard to savour the qualities of a really good rum if it's masked by lots of fruit and lots of show in a Tiki bar. Our advice is taste the rums neat and then decide which one you'd like to incorporate into your favourite cocktail."
What flavours and aromas do you look for in a rum generally?
"There are myriad flavours and a cornucopia of tastes that explode from the very different rums now available. Molasses, banana and liquorice don't even begin to cover it."
