Stop At: Edinburgh Castle, Castlehill, Edinburgh EH1 2NG Scotland

We begin your family friendly tour just metres from where we meet. On the Esplanade in front of Edinburgh Castle.

From there our adventure takes us to the site witches were burned many centuries ago.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Writers' Museum, Lady Stairs House Lady Stair's Close Lawnmarket Royal Mile, Edinburgh EH1 2PA Scotland

We will visit a hidden courtyard area called Wardrop's Court, standing outside the entrance to the Writer's Museum.

Duration: 5 minutes

Stop At: Lawnmarket, Edinburgh EH1, UK

I will also take you to James Court, where you will hear of how the fury of an English King affected Edinburgh.

We will also explore Riddell's Court in this area. There you will see the outside of an amazing mansion house. The sort Bill Gates might live in today, but dating back to the 1590's!

Stop At: St Giles' Cathedral, High Street Historic Royal Mile, Edinburgh EH1 1RE Scotland

You will see from the outside the magnificent St Giles Cathedral, the site of Christian worship for almost 900 years!

The Cathedral is open for visitors to enjoy free, although you may make a donation to do so if you wish.

Opening Hours; Mon - Wed 10am to 2pm, Thurs - Sat 10am - 4pm. On Sundays the Cathedral is not open for visitors, unless they are attending Christian worship.

Inside St Giles can be found The Order of the Thistle Chapel. Only sixteen extremely prominent and important members of society become members. Even then they must receive it as a personal gift from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

They are known as Knights of the Thistle. It is an Order of chivalry which dates back to 1687. To this day becoming a Knight of the Thistle is recognised as the highest honour in the country.

Ssdly due to the pandemic this area is closed, although if you ask nicely the Cathedral may take you in one at a time.

As of July 2021 there is no photography fee in the main Cathedral.

Stop At: Edinburgh City Chambers, 45-329 High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1PN Scotland

Our Closes and Wynds - narrow side streets which run steeply off the Royal Mile are not safe places for people to gather during pandemic times. Instead, in front of our City Chambers - a much more open area - you will learn of how Edinburgh citizens survived without running water.

Stopping here also gives you the opportunity to see a glorious piece of 1700s architecture. Our outstanding City Chambers building is home to the Fathers of our City. Locally elected politicians known as Councillors.

Entry to the City Chambers ios only possible for these politicians their staff and visiting dignitaries. Not sadly, the general public.

Stop At: Trunk's Close, Trunk's Cl, Edinburgh EH1, UK

If you choose to enquire about a private tour on Mondays to Fridays, and we arrive between 9am and 4.30pm at John Knox House Museum, we have an additional bonus stop to enjoy together!

Before we conclude your tour outside John Knox House Museum, we can explore Trunk's Close together!

We we will discover a beautiful, peaceful hidden courtyard. A perfect secret place for you to enjoy some refreshment during your Edinburgh vacation.

Entry to Trunk's Close is free.

Stop At: John Knox House Museum, 43-45 High Street, Edinburgh EH1 1SR Scotland

Your tour ends in front of John Knox House. Both temporary tenant John Knox and landlord James Mossman have firey tales of intrigue and betrayal to tell!

Entry to John Knox house Museum is not included in your tour and must be pre booked in advance. The museum is open seven days a week between 10am and 6pm, with last entry at 5pm.

Entry costs are £6 for adults, £5 concessions. Under 7's enter for free.

There will be fun questions for children at the conclusion of your tour. If they do well, they will receive a special prize!
