Small group tour of the highlights, to see the Coronation Chair, and the burial places of kings, queens and many famous people including Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Dickens. This is a 13th century gothic masterpiece and has been used for every coronation since 1066. The tour highlights the impact of the English Reformation and the religious wars and turmoil of the subsequent centuries. In particular we will look at how Church and State are bonded together through successive monarchs acting also as Heads of the Church of England.

Stop At: Saint Margaret's Church on Parliament Square, Westminster Abbey 20 Dean's Yard, London SW1P 3JX England

The church was originally built in the eleventh century and rebuilt in the fifteenth to provide a place of worship for the citizens of Westminster, a function it still fulfils today. It is one of the best examples of late gothic Perpendicular architecture, a style unique to England. It is also the church where Winston Churchill was married and the final resting place of Sir Walter Raleigh who was beheaded close by.

A nineteenth century Neo gothic church constructed within a small space in central London. It was built for the Church of England in response to the new Catholic churches being built following the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829. Although C of E, the church like several others, adopted many of the symbols and traditions of the Catholic faith such as the use of incense and an elaborate Eucharist, and became known as a 'High Church'.

Stop At: Bunhill Fields, 38 City Rd, London, London EC1Y 1AU England

Originally created as a burial place for victims of the 1665 plague, this former graveyard became the site for the burial of 'non-conformists' to the Church of England faith. Many of these are well know writers such as Daniel Defoe and John Bunyan; artists such as William Blake and the 'Mother of Methodism' Suzanne Wesley.

Stop At: Wesley's Chapel & Museum of Methodism, 49 City Road, London EC1Y 1AU England

A pilgrimage to the house and burial place of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. The house contains much of its original furniture and personal possessions of its owner. Next door is also the first Methodist Chapel built by Wesley and still used today for worship. In the crypt below is the Museum of Methodism where many interesting and fascinating artefacts can be seen and enjoyed.
