Groan Plaza Met a friend for lunch in the restaurant - at first, the service was too attentive - we were approached 4 times in about 10 minutes to place our order. After the order was placed, the reverse occurred - it was impossible to find anyone to assist. The food was below average (2 x fishfinger sandwiches, cold). Afterwards, we moved to sit in the bar. We asked a member of staff if we could order tea/coffee, they said no problem. We never saw them again. Numerous staff we coming and going but there was no offer of teas/coffee and getting the bill from 2 unoccupied members of staff was a herculean task. As an aside, the toilets were a mess. If ever there was a place to 'dine and ditch', this would have been it. Sadly, I paid £25 for 2 sandwiches, most of which ended up in the bin.

Below par experience My experience at the hotel was below par this time around. The hygiene of some of the staff members is really poor to say the least. Knocked in our room to ask if we needed any robes or slippers, we asked for slippers as we already had robes, decided he needed to come in to see for himself as if I was lying. Didn’t sit well with me. Tv doesn’t have any options for any apps like YouTube or Netflix, only the free view channels. Witnessed staff having an argument in reception with a guest and another argument in the restaurant with another guest claiming he hadn’t paid his bill when in fact he had paid his bill. During breakfast in the morning the pancake machine had stopped “working” but no one bothered to fix it, all thy need to do was change the pack with the batter. Only positive was Taffy the older gentleman working at the bar during the night shift. Cares about his job and will go above and beyond for the customer.

Avoid if you like clean rooms We arrived after 4pm and were checked in quickly but as soon as we entered our room we knew we could not stay in it. The room had not been cleaned at all and was extremely tired and worn, the carpet was filthy with stains but had not even been hoovered. We were tired from travelling and wanted an evening meal and a good sleep but after seeing the state of the room decided we wouldn't chance the hygiene of the kitchen We weren't expecting too much for the money but we did at least expect it to be clean with a certain basic standard. Will avoid this hotel chain in future, we drove home tired which was not ideal (arriving very late) but at least we knew the bed would be comfy and clean. We were offered to look at other rooms but having walked the corridors we didn't have any faith in finding anything acceptable, the staff were pleasant and we don't blame them at all but the hotel chain needs to look at their standards if they want people to stay here.

Spa and hotel nice, restaurant disappointing Tale of two halves - nice hotel room and spa, poor restaurant. We arrived for check in and no one was on the desk, we had to wait a few minutes before someone arrived. The room was nice, fairly spacious and comfortable beds. Also the bathroom was a nice size. Everything was clean and well presented. The spa was busy (but we went at the time kids could use it so we weren’t expecting it to be peaceful!). They have a nice size jacuzzi hot tub and sauna, as well as a steam room. The pool isn’t deep, 1.4 meters, so very good for children, and wasn’t too cold. I saw there were treatment rooms but we didn’t use them. Our son is disabled so a friendly member of staff showed us the service lift that staff use and that we could use, but it was dirty so afterwards I didn’t love putting our wet feet on it, but at least it made it accessible for someone with mobility issues. The only criticism is the disabled changing room is really a bathroom, there is not a chair or stool to sit and get changed on, and that could be solved easily. We had booked the food package which said it included 3 course dinner, but that was a £90 limit, so for 4 of us that definitely is not the case (but perhaps children were free on the room and the food allocation was for the grown ups. It’s worth checking if you are booking that package). The waiters were nice enough, but overall it was underwhelming. It didn’t help that they had run out of pizza (so they obviously don’t make the bases fresh), and appletise, clearly they hadn’t stocked up after Christmas. If dinner had been the only experience then we would have thought it was ok, but breakfast the next day wasn’t good. The food was fine, standard buffet breakfast, but it was unpleasant experience. Too busy, we had to wait for a table, and some of that was there were not enough staff to clean the tables quickly, so they sat free but still with the dirty plates on them. When they cleaned the table we asked for clean cutlery and it took a while to come. Other issues like the pancakes mixture was very popular and ran out and then took the staff some time to provide a new one when asked, all while people were queing - having two machines would have been better given it was so popular. The water tanker had ran out and no one refilled it (I noticed this in the hotel reception as well) there were no coffee cups at one of coffee stations, which meant there was a queue at another one. Etc etc. More staff could have solved a lot of these problems. If I was in the area and needed just a hotel, I may go back. But I definitely would not go back for any food.
