Groupon Payment Methods & Troubleshooting Guide
Last updated: March 2026
Payment methods and payment issues
Groupon accepts several payment methods, depending on your location and the type of purchase. If a payment doesn’t go through, it’s usually related to card verification or bank security checks rather than an issue with your Groupon account.
Accepted payment methods
In the UK, Groupon typically accepts:
Major debit and credit cards (such as Visa and Mastercard)
PayPal (where available)
Groupon credits, if applicable
Available payment options may vary by deal and cannot always be combined.
Why a payment might be declined
If your payment is declined, check the following:
Your card details are entered correctly.
Your card hasn’t expired and has sufficient funds.
Your bank hasn’t blocked the transaction for security reasons.
Some banks require additional verification for online purchases.
3D Secure verification
For some transactions, your bank may ask you to complete a 3D Secure check. This is an extra security step to confirm that you’re the cardholder.
If you don’t complete the 3D Secure verification, the payment won’t go through. If the verification page doesn’t load, try:
Refreshing the page
Using a different browser or device
Contacting your bank for assistance
Charges and authorisations
In some cases, you may see a pending charge even if an order wasn’t completed. These authorisation charges usually disappear within a few days, depending on your bank.
If you see a completed charge without an order confirmation, contact Customer Support.
