A picture can paint a thousand words, but only if you’re properly trained; otherwise it only says ‘thumb on the lens’. Pull your finger out with today’s Groupon: £17 for a three hour beginners’ DSLR photography course at The Rose Studio.
A fully-fledged member of the Master Photographers Association, Paul Alison has been snapping under the auspices of The Rose Studio for over a quarter of a century. His portfolio spans baby poses, nuptial celebrations, and family portraits, as well as images of the Hampshire countryside, striking landscapes, and the odd animal in-action. Expanding his repertoire to include the role of teaching extraordinaire, Paul is offering his shutter skills to all levels of camera users, allowing rookie clickers to perfect their point and shooting and exercise their index fingers.

During a three hour DSLR master class, groups of up to 12 beginners can get to grips with their camera, learning the basics and a bit of theory, before leaping in to some practical snapping. Students will cover their cameras' menus and modes, including aperture and shutter priority, as well as looking in to ISO speeds, zoom, and depth of field, exploring the world through a better focused lens. One they’re up to shutter speed with white balance, they’re tutored in the art of adjusting images and downloading, and, fuelled with complimentary tea, coffee, and biscuits, will depart with newly brewed artistic prowess.
