Groupon's Guide To Hampshire

Naturally rich in waterways, wildlife, and rugged terrain, Hampshire offers historic attractions and a mix of outdoors activities such as horse riding, river rafting, and coarse fishing.

Travellers may head to Jane Austen's House Museum revealing memorabilia and artefacts that once belonged to the novelist, while a historical outing can commence with Winchester Cathedral, where her tomb lies. Straying off the beaten track, consider dipping into the ArtSway Gallery, where a rotating collection of local and international artworks are displayed in a special New Forest space. A taste of the high-life can be enjoyed at the Southampton Hall of Aviation where a vast collection of vintage aircrafts can be explored, along with the considerable sky-gliding heritage of the Hampshire coast.

Groupon advertised the experience with incorrect images of the venue with a 4* rating, this was not the case. Also the room had tape round the windows and a TV with brown water damage inside the screen. The pool was dirty with changing rooms out of order and while using the pool there was a swimming lesson on with screaming kids ruining any chance of a relaxing experience.

Run down & Neglected… This place is on a steep downward spiral. Desperate for renovation... (SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS)... it's a good job it isn't expensive. (£70 for my Dbl room JAN 2026). The Basingstoke Country Hotel & Spa used to be a nice hotel... now there are buckets all over the place collecting water from the leaking roof, thick black grime around the old and dull bathroom fittings - SEE PHOTO. They've painted the room at some point but rather than move the wardrobe aside they've just painted around it... it is almost comical… SEE PHOTO. TV mounted a little in front of the mirror rather than the clear space next to it. The hot water comes out of the taps cloudy like milk. The bed was fine... one of the only things that did work. Breakfast - Basic self service fry up - absolutely stone cold everyday... colder than my girlfriend when I got her that packet of Richmond sausage for Valentine’s Day that one year… they really should get the hot plate fixed. A few other bits available - toast n' tea etc. The hotel seems to be very popular with foreign visitors… some who were staying nearby in my corridor, which absolutely reeked of cannabis, I could hear them peeing and shouting through the walls late at night. Unbelievably, despite having already paid to stay at the hotel there is a £4 charge to use the gym/spa facilities. The gym, although basic has cardio machines and all muscle groups covered. (Also leaking from the roof though). The pool was busy with kids lessons etc most days that I tried to use it but the sauna was working perfectly. The jacuzzi looks like something out of an apocalypse movie (not working). This place is quite obviously neglected and run down. Guests were all sat at breakfast openly discussing from table to table how bad everything was. Somebody needs to care or it will become exclusively one of those government deal hotels for the foreign visitors before eventually collapsing... Never again. Ever.

Health hazard I would avoid this hotel. Arrived an issues with check-in finally sorted but my room (102) was covered in mold, hadn’t been cleaned was his disgusting. I asked to swap rooms explaining but was told there was no rooms left in my category and because I’d booked through Expedia I would have to pay to upgrade to family room. DIST get the use the pool, gym or sauna as it closes early so by the time I’d finished the rooms issues facilities were closed (9pm) Staff were due and hotel room was really poor! They’ve recently painted the room, looks like to cover up staines and/mold so room stank of a lovey mixture of damp and new paint! Again hotel reception not widely interested

Distress purchase - a bit miserable but OK I needed somewhere to stay at short notice for work - out of my own pocket so it needed to be reasonable (and this place was). Plenty of good things - the room was clean, comfortable and well-appointed, the pool etc looked alluring - though sadly I had no chance to use. But I'd arrived after 9pm, the place was more or less deserted (perhaps why it was so cheap), with absolutely no eating options beyond a walk out to a roadside kebab van... I made do with a Mars bar from reception. So all in all a fairly miserable and depressing experience - could have been redeemed by a bit of banter and humour from the staff, but a bit disappointed with the grim surliness.
